Chocolate Peanut Butter Ripple

We are pretty sure that we had this flavor and forgot to update the blog. We will do a little "research" down at handel's and see if we can whip something up for you!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie Ice Cream

Reihonna--There are few combinations as surefire as chocolate and peanut butter. This idea seems even better, chocolate, peanut butter and brownie. The sort of thing other people's mothers wouldn't let them have. (not my mom, she never seemed to find a reason we couldn't have chocolate) The ice cream was delicious, but had a serious flaw. The brownie and the peanut butter were thick and vicous. The peanut butter exhibited the properties that are often celebrated in children's stories; that is, it made your mouth all stuck together and the chewing was labored. With the intense brownie and peanut butter thickness and a very strong chocolate flavor in the brownie and a slightly dry texture in the peanut butter, I felt that the ice cream required hot fudge syrup just to keep up a reasonable moisture level. I never thought I would say such a thing, but the huge clumps of peanut butter and brownie would have been much more enjoyable if the clumps were smaller and, yes, maybe even if there was less of each topping.

Recommend?: Yup, just get the hot fudge, or some whipped cream
Order again?: yes, but I think i would add a scoop of plain chocolate to the cone to even out the ice cream/peanut butter/brownie balance.


Ian-- This was really good, it was the first time I tried it without a cone, just had them put in a bowl with some whipped cream. The brownie chunks are great contrast to the chocolate. Pure decanadence.

Chocolate Malt Caramel

Ian - This is going to split into the Pro / Anti Whoppers Candy Camps. The malt lovers are going to love it, and the haters are going to hate it. I like it, it's not a sweet, which I like. I'd order it again.

Reihonna--I always thought that I hated "malt" because I hate malted milk balls. It turns out that I don't know what "malt" means, and this ice cream is delicious. If you also have this confusion please see the linked article. The ice cream was the richest of the chocolates so far with a creamy, chocolaty flavor. The caramel mixed in nicely. I thought this would be unpleasant, but it was the yummiest of the chocolates so far! I would describe the flavor as a rich, milky chocolate with a pleasant slightly powdery flavor. The caramel syrup was well balanced, not overpowering.

Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Reihonna--This is vanilla ice cream with chunks of chocolate in it. (not really chips) The "vanilla" ice cream tastes a whole lot more like "white" ice cream or cream, iced than it tastes like vanilla. That was disappointing, as I like my vanilla to be that rich buttery vanilla flavor usually sold as "french vanilla" or "vanilla bean." The chocolate was yummy, but this could have very well been Giant Eagle brand Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. I would hope for better from Handels.

Recommend: Not really, try something more exciting
Order again: only as an accompaniment to something more intense, for balance.

Ian-- As Reihonna says, this is just how it sounds, but you would think that an ice cream place would have a good vanilla; you'd be wrong. This vanilla makes you think along the lines of "A McFlurry would really taste pretty good right now" I can't fault the chocolate chips though.

Chocolate Cake Batter

Reihonna--I thought that this was going to be fantastic, so I think I built it up too much. This tastes like the chocolate version of the cake batter ice cream. (surprise, surprise) This is very rich stuff, so it isn't for the faint of heart. The chocolate was much better than the taste of the plain chocolate stuff--more like the chocolate flavor in chocoholic chunk, dark and yummy. This flavor was mixed with the "Cake batter" flavor which is very similar to the Creamy White Betty Crocker Frosting that I sometimes eat out of the jar. If you are too refined to eat premade frosting out of a tub, this might be just the thing you are looking for. It is buttery and sweet, maybe even a little doughy tasting. Overall, pretty yummy. It would be even better mixed with something more subtle to break up the flavor. I would suggest a two scoops Chocolate Cake Batter to one scoop Chocolate Chip ratio.

Order again? Definitely, but with a less intense flavor on the same cone

Ian-- "More Ovaltine Plllleeease" those are the kids you will hear when you taste this. It's a good chalky chocolately goodness, like the ovaltine but without the vitamin C. What can be said for it is that it's better than the other Cake Batter Ice Cream, which had all the sublety of a land o lakes tub.

Chocolate Almond

Reihonna--Chocolate ice cream with almonds in it. Pretty okay, but pretty boring. I think the ice cream tasted more like Hershey's Chocolate syrup than the plain chocolate ice cream. Overall, if you are lame enough to just want chocolate ice cream with some nuts in it, go for the plain chocolate because the ice cream tasted better.

Recommend?--no just get the people behind the counter to sprinkle some nuts on the plain chocolate. You will be happier

Ian-- Chocolate plus nuts is a standard recipe for success since the beginning of time, if only the ice cream part of this one wasn't made by mixing vanilla with Hershey's chocolate syrup. Some of these chocolate flavors make me look carefully at the Marcs across the parking lot.

Chocolate Ice Cream

Reihonna-- I was extremely dissapointed by this ice cream. The ice cream was the color of chocolate soft serve and tasted just like it. Very light on the chocolate flavor. Also, it was as sticky and melt-y as the Chocoholic Chunk, but not as yummy. If you have had shocolate soft serve, you already have tried this.

Recommend: No, go for a more adventerous flavor.
Order again: Sure, with some more intense flavors for balance. If wasn't had, just boring.

Ian - Well, chocolate lovers, here you have it, the all american basic chocolate. Good, but the crux is you can get exactly the same taste with a Wendy's frosty for a buck. This was an extremely basic chocolate. Reihonna is right it was very soft serve like.
